Pregnancy & Physical Therapy

PREGNANCY CHANGES

Pregnancy is an exciting time that brings major changes to the female body in a relatively short period of time. These changes can be the result of:

  • An increase in hormones including those that relax some of your stabilizing ligaments
  • A change of the body’s center of gravity
  • Gaining additional weight that leads to a change in posture
  • These changes help prepare your body for delivery of a healthy, happy baby but can cause you problems. Some of the most common problems pregnant women complain of are:

  • Back pain including the low back and upper back
  • Hip pain on one or both sides
  • Pubic bone pain
  • Abdominal pain not related to uterine contractions or Braxton Hicks “False Contractions”.
  • Swelling in the pelvis, legs and hands
